Shattered

The mighty wall stood upright
White, of many tiny bricks
Tall and proud
Strong and determined
Yet in time, began to crack
For the sun beat down upon its back
And the animals razed it with claws
The wind blew against it
And the rain, dampened it

It resisted
And held its breath
Lest it drowned, in the seas
Of adversaries.
The world – its enemy
So the cracks increased
The wind stronger
The rain harder

And one day
When it could stand no more
When it could suffer no more
With a final breath
With a mournful gasp
And a painful cry,
Of defeat
It let go
And fell in a heap,
Forgotten -
A warrior defeated.
