Devdas
I wish I were a boy again.
Innocence. Naivity.
Turning back time. With knowledge of the future - making the right choices. Changing.
Nothing aches like the aching heart. What could have been. What should have been. Living in the past? A waterfall of despair crashing on all sides.
Love lost, and nothing gained.
The last few breaths still remain in his body. He has fulfilled his oath.
"Meet me at least once before you die," she had said.
Paro.
Intoxicated, mumbling and a scarred liver. Yet he still manages to make the journey. A six-hour train ride. Two more hours in the horse cart. And then he collapses in the courtyard of her mansion.
Paro's hears his whisper. Afterall, they were childhood friends. Did it matter that she got married to another man? A man who wouldn't even touch her, because he loved his deceased first wife still?
No.
Paro and Devdas. They were always together, since they were little children.
And then he dies.
Paro is banished behind the gates of her mansion. Never to see, touch or hear the voice of her Devdas again.
Not even the one last time.
The aching heart suffers like nothing else.
